Land.
01-Jul-2002
A body of work undertaken in 2003 influenced by my move into large scale sculpture. The landscape becomes the stage for the sculpture and some kind of narrative is formed through time, space and the elements of form. These sculptures have a distinct back and front and address the idea of 3-D through the two dimensional landform motif.
The landscapes are non specific, free form cut with the gas cutter, but curiously they became recognisable places. The larger outdoor piece made for the Museum of Steel Sculpture in the UK was just a cut out but the people who saw it ascribed a local peak with ancient significance to it. Storytelling and imagination are powerful tools.
